Tailgating before the game? Gluten-free tailgate checklist.

Can you bring outside food into a stadium?

It depends on the venue. Of the 482 stadiums, ballparks, and arenas we cover, 199 publish a rule that allows food for a dietary need, with conditions. 72 list no dietary exception, 23 ban outside food in general but say to contact the venue about a dietary need, and 188 have rules that don’t say, differ by event, or that we could not confirm. Search your venue above to read its rule.

Can you bring a water bottle into a stadium?

At 38 of the 100 NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL venues whose bag pages we read, you can bring a sealed water bottle, usually with a size limit: 20 oz at 11 of them and 1 liter at 9. 21 allow an empty reusable bottle. Pick your venue in the bag check above to see its own words.

What size clear bag can I bring to a stadium?

70 of the 100 venues allow a clear bag of 12 x 6 x 12 inches, the NFL size. Some ballparks allow 16 x 16 x 8 inches, and many arenas allow only a small clutch. The bag check compares your bag’s size with your venue’s limit.

Can I bring gluten-free food to a game if I have celiac disease?

Often, but check your venue’s own rule. 199 venues publish a rule that lets food for a dietary need in, and many of them limit it to medically needed food, ask you to get approval first, or set bag and container rules. Everywhere else, contact the venue before the event. Each guide lists the venue’s phone, email, or contact page, and a request you can edit and send.

Can I bring allergy-safe food into a stadium?

At many venues, yes, within the venue’s rules. 199 of the 482 venues we cover publish a rule that allows food for a dietary need, and most set conditions, such as sealed packaging, a bag size, or asking guest services first. Where the rule doesn’t say, contact the venue before the event and ask the same question for your allergy.

Are stadiums required to accommodate food allergies?

The ADA does not require every place that serves food to offer gluten-free or allergen-free food. In its questions and answers on a 2012 agreement with Lesley University, the U.S. Justice Department said some people with celiac disease or a severe food allergy have a disability under the ADA. It said a restaurant may have to take reasonable steps, such as answering questions about ingredients when they are known, but does not have to change its menu. It did not say how this applies to stadiums. You can still ask a venue for an exception to its outside-food rule: 199 venues we cover already allow food for a dietary need. This is general information, not legal advice.

Which MLB ballparks let you bring food for a dietary need?

28 of the 30 MLB ballparks we cover allow food for a dietary need, with conditions. The others are Citi Field and Sutter Health Park: their rules differ by event or don’t say, so ask first.

Which NFL stadiums let you bring food for a dietary need?

23 of the 30 NFL stadiums we cover allow food for a dietary need, with conditions. The others are Allegiant Stadium, Bank of America Stadium, Caesars Superdome, Ford Field, Highmark Stadium, Nissan Stadium and Soldier Field: their rules list no dietary exception, differ by event or don’t say, so ask first.

Which NBA and NHL arenas let you bring food for a dietary need?

24 of the 55 NBA and NHL arenas we cover allow food for a dietary need, with conditions. 8 list no dietary exception, 10 say to contact the venue first and 13 don’t say, so ask first.

How the check works

Where the stamps come from

We read the bag policy pages of 100 NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL venues between October 19 and November 1, 2026, and saved their exact words. Then we read each line by hand and marked what it says about 15 things fans carry. Every stamp points to one of those lines, and the tray shows it.

If a line names a thing but isn’t clear, you get Read the line. If the lines we saved from the page don’t name it, you get Not stated, ask. If two of our records point different ways, you get Records disagree.

Food for a diet

For food, the tray also shows the venue’s rule on food for a dietary need, from that venue’s guide. It has its own source and date. We never say gluten-free food counts as a medical need. Ask the venue first.

Other venues: 482 are on this page. Where we have no bag page, the check shows the food rule only.

Bag size math

We turn your bag to its best fit and compare each side to the venue’s limit. A limit with two numbers checks the two longest sides. All 100 venues publish a size. The drawing shows the shapes to scale. Use a tape measure on the bag itself.

Limits

Staff at the gate make the final call. Rules can change after the date we checked. Concerts and other events often have other rules. Ask staff about cross-contact before you eat.
